Kindergarten profile:
Somerset Kindergarten in Palmerston North caters for a multi-cultural residential area and comprises of families from a diverse range of backgrounds.
An important aspect of our kindergarten is the policy of home visits during non-contact hours, which fosters open communication and aids the settling process for all involved.
Our outdoor area is enhanced by several mature trees, which provide plentiful shade for children over the summer months.
Our programme is child-centred and activities are carefully planned and evaluated by the teachers to challenge and extend the children.
At our kindergarten, the children are able to:

their own decisions
use their imagination and creativity
work
at their own level
work in a non-competitive environment
Our planning is based on the strands and goals of the national curriculum, Te Whaariki, which is displayed in the kindergarten. We have a committee comprising parents who are actively involved in supporting the teachers, managing finances and liaising with the Ruahine Kindergarten Association.
Our major annual fundraising project held by the committee each September is the "Bride of the Year" competition.
