Fee: Use "20 hours free" or $1.00 per hour plus GST

Kindergarten profile:


Kelvin Grove Kindergarten is located in Palmerston North's northern suburbs. It has the distinction of being the region's newest kindergarten, having opened in July, 1999.

The uniqueness of Kelvin Grove Kindergarten is highlighted by the following points:

Two four-hour sessions are held weekly to support children's transition to school and to promote extension of children's projects.
Links are made with the New Zealand School Curriculum of maths and English.
Literacy and numeracy programmes are evident in the daily programme.
Children's higher order thinking skills (creative and critical) are promoted using De Bono's six hats of thinking.
Parent meetings and individual interviews are held to discuss children's progress and curriculum developments.
Formal small group learning in extension groups / whanau groups every session.
Individual learning programmes are developed for each child. The children and their parents work together to develop learning goals.
Children acknowledge and recognise their feelings and emotions, and those of others.
Children are involved in decision-making regarding the environment.
An inclusive virtues-based approach is used to being out the best in the children.
Teachers work closely alongside the children within the programme to extend and challenge their thinking based on the children's interests.
Families are kept informed of their child's ongoing learning within the programme.
The learning environment is planned daily to follow and promote the children's learning interests.
Teachers are self-motivated in ensuring a quality programme is provided through researching current teaching practices and theories.
Partnerships are formed with parents to developed shared goals and expectations.
Teachers use a variety of teaching strategies to promote children's learning and development.
Teachers enhance children's learning and development through extending children's thinking and actions through sensitive and informed guidance, interventions and support.
The curriculum is based on the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whaariki.
Our teachers are passionate about teaching in early childhood and promote children's enthusiasm for learning.
We provide a positive, friendly learning environment that is sensitive to different cultures and well suited to helping children with special needs and / or abilities.
