Kindergarten profile:
Kelvin
Grove Kindergarten is located in Palmerston North's northern suburbs.
It has the distinction of being the region's newest kindergarten, having
opened in July, 1999.
The
uniqueness of Kelvin Grove Kindergarten is highlighted by the following

Two four-hour sessions are held weekly to support children's transition
to school and to promote extension of children's projects. |

Links
are made with the New Zealand School Curriculum of maths and English.

Literacy
and numeracy programmes are evident in the daily programme. |

Children's
higher order thinking skills (creative and critical) are promoted
using De Bono's six hats of thinking. |

Parent
meetings and individual interviews are held to discuss children's
progress and curriculum developments. |

small group learning in extension groups / whanau groups every session.

Individual learning programmes are developed for each child. The children
and their parents work together to develop learning goals. |

Children
acknowledge and recognise their feelings and emotions, and those of

are involved in decision-making regarding the environment. |

inclusive virtues-based approach is used to being out the best in
the children. |

Teachers
work closely alongside the children within the programme to extend
and challenge their thinking based on the children's interests. |
