Children at West End Kindergarten donned pig's ears on Monday May 9 for an extra special story time with Diana Neild, author of the popular Piggity-Wiggity Jiggity Jig series.
Teachers and children were delighted to be among the first to hear Piggity-Wiggity's latest adventures following the launch of Ms Neild's fourth Piggity book on Friday.
In Piggity-Wiggity Jiggity Jig and the Camping Holiday, Piggity's dreams of sleeping in his own tent appear all but dashed when the Jig family discovers a missing tent pole.
Kiwi ingenuity soon sees the problem solved, with some clever rhymes and fantastic illustrations captivating readers along the way.
Lynda Hunt, head teacher at West End Kindergarten, said Piggity's latest adventure really resonated with West End kindergarten children.
"The books are quite delightful to read", she said.
"Piggity's camping adventure really captured the imaginations of our children as many have been camping before."
This was a great opportunity to share the love of books with a local author as well as providing a catalyst for children to be engaged with challenge which links with the teaching team's current research on building children's resilience.
Following this visit the provision of a large tent fly and a small tent without poles created new challenges for children to explore a variety of ways to put these tents up at kindergarten.
