Roslyn Kindergarten
About Us
Roslyn kindergarten welcomes a diverse learning community.
Our vision of your child is of a capable, competent learner, this produces a strong child-initiated program with a focus on the environment as "the third teacher" and emphasis on the importance of fostering relationships with parents, families and the wider community.
We believe learning is an active process and is integrated throughout long-term projects as well as short-term explorations.
We encourage children to be protagonists (leaders in their learning), to work in collaboration with others to co-construct new theories, ideas and knowledge. We encourage children to think using multiple strategies, to help them discover and learn skills of what to do when faced with opportunities, information and situations they are unfamiliar with.
Through careful observations, extensive documentation, thoughtful questions, deep reflections and dialogue our teachers are able to work in partnership with our children and families to extend learning and build lifelong learners.
We are inspired by Reggio Emilia, a world-renowned educational philosophy that originated in Italy. Our approach is based on the theories of Loris Malaguzzi and Carlina Rinaldi.
We also take inspiration from Art Costa and his sixteen Habits of Mind and Guy Claxton and his theories on Building Learning Power.
This approach weaves with the strands and goals of Te Whāriki New Zealand's early childhood curriculum and treaty-based principles.
