Te Whāriki is the Ministry of Education’s early childhood curriculum centred on the principles of empowerment, holistic development, family and wider community and relationships.
Strands of well-being, belonging, contribution, communication and exploration stem from these principles and create an integrated foundation for every child’s development.
Ruahine Kindergartens’ programmes focus on innovative learning through play guided by Te Whāriki and the association’s strategic plan. Icons throughout this site indicate the strands of Te Whāriki evident in each kindergarten story or activity, demonstrating the value of play and the way in which learning permeates all aspects of kindergarten life.
